A Contemporary Revamp of a Landed House

In this home, the concept of simplicity and serenity is beautifully expressed in the form of sublime details. Interior design is all about essential elements, and it can still be taken to the next level with careful application of colors and textures to create a visual interest that soothes our senses. Throughout this home, the use of curves is paired with modern ideas and trendy materials, resulting in a timeless, incomparable quality.

For this large-scale family home, interior designer Tan Bee Kun has created a luxurious yet laid-back space centered around contemporary elements. The dining, kitchen, and utility rooms on the ground floor, as well as the bedrooms on the upper level, have been completely revamped from scratch. The interior design team used a series of sophisticated materials enhanced by functional details to bring out an updated look that harmonizes with the existing spaces.

One of the standout features of this design is the custom-built cabinet that serves as an important central element to demarcate the wet kitchen, laundry room, and dry kitchen. This cabinet stretches across the dry and wet kitchen, acting as a feature wall with hidden doors that lead into the wet kitchen and the laundry room. When the doors are closed, the cabinet wall becomes a stylish backdrop for the kitchen and dining area. The cabinet also cleverly conceals a large column that rests awkwardly in the middle, resolving the issue seamlessly.

The kitchen area showcases a minimalist aesthetic with appliances neatly tucked into the cabinet, maintaining a clean and sleek appearance. Delicate details like curved edges are introduced to enhance the modern appeal, seen in the built-in display shelves next to the dining area. The first floor features a spacious family room with a U-shaped sofa and a dark wood feature wall accommodating a flat-screen TV. Natural light streams in through large windows, creating a bright yet cozy atmosphere.

The master bedroom is designed with elegance in mind, featuring a dark-toned freestanding wall that serves as an elegant headboard for the bed on one side and a study area on the other. The study area extends into a cantilevered desk, keeping everything sleek and minimalist. The bathroom suite is kept wide open, with carefully selected materials indicating the different spaces. The walk-in wardrobe and bathroom transition from warm wood tones to a cooler environment with light-toned marble, creating a unique spatial experience.

This double-storey landed house spans a total built-up area of 225 square meters and features 4 rooms and 4 bathrooms. It is located in a guarded and gated neighborhood, offering a high-end park home experience with elevated garden decks and a cozy garden.

The design of this home showcases a minimalist and contemporary style, with a focus on simplicity, functionality, and timeless elegance. The use of light and dark tones, curves, and sophisticated materials creates a harmonious and visually appealing space. The project started in March 2018 in Seremban, Malaysia, and was completed in May 2019.

This design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This award acknowledges designs that demonstrate outstanding technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
